Each PDF page is drawn onto an HTML canvas at double its natural resolution and encoded as a JPEG at 95% quality. Pages that contain text are rasterised along with everything else, so the output is a picture of the page rather than a selectable document.
Is the resolution of the exported images high?
Pages are rendered at 2× their nominal PDF size, which keeps text legible and graphics sharp on high-DPI displays. There is no separate DPI setting.
Can I extract only the embedded photos from a PDF?
Not with this tool. PdfPix renders whole pages. To pull individual embedded images you would need a PDF object inspector rather than a page renderer.
