Text is extracted from the PDF in your browser with PDF.js. The first 6,000 characters are sent to NVIDIA's hosted API (Mistral Large) for translation; if that fails, a public Google Translate endpoint is used as a fallback.
Because part of this workflow runs on a third-party service, treat it as server-assisted rather than fully private, and avoid confidential documents.
Good to know before you convert
- The output is a .txt file containing translated text. The original PDF layout, images, and design are not reproduced.
- Only the first 6,000 characters are translated. Longer documents are truncated.
- The source text must already exist in the PDF — scanned documents cannot be translated.
- Extracted text is sent to a third-party service, so do not translate confidential documents.

Will the PDF layout be preserved?
No. PdfPix extracts the text, translates it, and writes the result to a plain .txt file. The original page layout, images, columns, and typography are not reproduced — you get the translated words, not a translated document. If you need a translated PDF that looks like the original, you must re-typeset the translated text yourself.
Are all languages supported?
The tool covers more than 50 major international languages. Accuracy varies by language pair, and specialised or legal terminology may be translated imprecisely.
Is my file confidential?
The PDF is parsed locally, but the extracted text is sent to a third-party translation service. Do not use this tool for confidential or regulated documents.
Why is only part of my document translated?
There is a 6,000-character limit per document, and everything past that point is dropped and marked as truncated. For a long document, split it into sections and translate each one separately.
